As we’ve all heard by now, John McCain has used the occassion of his 72nd birthday to unveil his choice for VP, who shall hereby be referred to as Harriet #2 for the uncanny resemblance this selection has to President Bush’s irresponsible selection of Harriet Myers for the Supreme Court.

It won’t be long before the realization hits the Conservative fringe players out there that this is a fatally flawed choice, and that the election has just been sealed for Senators Obama and Biden, whose combined ticket now portrays a far greater knowledge of foreign policy and national legislative experience than the McCain/Harriet 2 ticket.
The transparent nature of this ploy – this play for single issue feminist voters is apparent to all – and also deeply flawed. American Feminist Women are generally too smart to be tricked into supporting a candidate that shares none of their values – that is anti-choice, by all indications (and these are not my words) a “bad mother” (her down-syndrome son is 4 months old – a great time to run for National Office!) and uneducated on all of the major issues of the day.
In fact, little Harriet even asked less than a month ago - (and I’m paraphrasing here) – ‘what is it the Vice President does anyway?,’
Amazing stuff. She is on the record, less than a month ago, supporting Barack Obama’s energy plan for Alaska – though she also supports opening up ANWR, while McCain (thankfully) does not. She does not believe in Global Warming. She has said that Creationism should be taught in schools (and changed her mind the next day) – and does not – rightly – feel that John McCain has a plan for withdrawing from Iraq.
A plan to withdraw? Heck – you mean a plan for defeat, right?
As I said, the deal has been sealed. This shallow ploy has about a week of shine, if even. Little Harriet’s abuse of power is currently under investigation by the Republican legislature of Alaska, and it’s an investigation that is bound to trouble her until election day – or the date the investigation is set to conclude, which is reported as 10 days before the election.
It will be interesting to see if the state legislature finds *some way* to change the date or timeline of that investigation. Any change will be heavily scrutinized and extremely suspicious – yet it may be in their interest to attempt to change it somehow anyway. No doubt they will try their best to make this go away. The Republican twist machine is already working on ways to make the Democrats look like buffoons for even discussing the issue – but the charge is clear, and damning.
Little Ms. Myers is not at all ready to be President, as even her most ardent supporters are quick to admit. No doubt, Republicans feel this way about Senator Obama – yet Senator Obama has firm positions on every issue on the table, and many beyond – and is prepared to engage every single one – with the invaluable aid of the most experience foreign policy expert in the whole of the American Senate – Senator Joe Biden. This is a formidable team when it comes to policy and leadership.
Little Harriet, it’s unfortunate to note, does not stand a chance. Women, your day will come soon – I hope – and a woman we can all respect will be the leader that does break through, finally, into the highest office in the land. I think she should go straight for the Presidency, though.
Oh, by the way, McCain’s new sidekick is named Sarah Palin, who until 1.5 yrs ago was the mayor of a town of 9000 – and a local housewife, beauty queen and ferocious hunter.
