BLUE: …they do their best to “swift-boat” Obama. Nowhere is a source cited for this donation info. Nowhere are we given a view of what “programs” this money allegedly funded.
Dr. Sowell wrote a column on Obama. A columnist does not have the space to cite the source for everything stated as fact in the column. Sowell has established the integrity to be taken at his word by his readers.
But for those not so inclined, here’s part of a Chicago Tribune blog article that supports the fact that Obama steered $225,000 in IL taxpayer dollars to Pfleger’s interests in 2001 (brackets and emphasis added):
In a Tribune story a year ago, Obama defended special earmarks for his district in state budgets while he was a state legislator, including one that went to programs associated with Pfleger’s church.“It happens that there were major supporters in my district who had been supporters before they got member initiatives,” Obama said then, noting that some of his contributors had been his allies for years [but it becomes character assasination when it's pointed out how disreputable these allies are?].
Pfleger gave Obama’s campaign $1,500 between 1995 and 2001, including $200 in April 2001, about three months after Obama announced $225,000 in grants to St. Sabina programs.
In that story, Pfleger said he made those donations personally, not on behalf of the church or to win grants. “At a time when less people vote than ever, I don’t think pastors should be silent on politics,” he said.
